Innovation and enhancement
The CNR Department of Engineering, ICT and Technologies for Energy and Transport (DIITET) carries out scientific and technological activities in strategic areas for the country innovation (applied mathematics, computer science, systems engineering and communications, industrial and civil engineering), with contributions to all the scientific areas of the National Research Plan (PNR) 2015-2020. Specifically, Energy, Smart Factory, Sustainable Mobility, Smart Secure and Inclusive Communities, and Aerospace are the PNR areas of main scientific interest for the department while, in the other PNR scientific areas, the department develops methodologies and tools to support the domain experts.
The integration of DIITET multidisciplinary skills offers unique opportunities in the panorama of national research. Specifically, it is strategic the integration of the traditional engineering disciplines (mechanical, construction, energy, new materials and production systems) with information and communications technologies (ICT). One of the emerging trends, for the production of new knowledge (in the DIITET research areas), is the "cyber-physical convergence", i.e., the convergence of the physical and virtual world for creating intelligent systems, integrated and controlled through ICT. This convergence is strategic in scenarios such as: Industry 4.0, smart cities, security and transport. In these areas, the DIITET department develops the whole research and innovation chain: from knowledge generation to its exploitation for the production of new products and processes, also for supporting the innovation in the public administration.
