Engineering, ICT and Technologies for Energy and Transportation Department

Mission

The challenge that the CNR currently faces is of a great importance, perhaps for the first time in its history the CNR is requested to demonstrate what or rather how it serves its country. It is expected to endorse the Nation that has great potential and great issues.

Taking into consideration strong social, natural and technological changes, in the epoch of shifting the strategies of globalization and international political uncertainty, the Department of Engineering, ICT and Technology for Energy and Transport (DIITET), taking into account the number of researchers and technologists, distributed infrastructure and the widespread presence of the Institutes on the National territory, has the critical mass and scientific production needed to be accredited, in the areas of competence, as a hub between the companies, central and local administration of the State, and public research system, intended as a set of Universities and Public Research Institutions. But to seize this opportunity, one must believe in a new model of knowledge sharing and partake in an overall project.

Institutes of the DIITET continue to grow following the same pattern: complex disciplinary structures, open to the new social, scientific and technological challenges, seeking direct relationships with major industries, from which they can draw inspiration both for innovation in new areas and resources necessary to the maintenance of their own structure.

On the other hand, the DIITET focuses on the potential of the intersection between its strategic areas and the external scientific community. Institutions remain the primary place of development or disciplinary knowledge; The Department plays the role of the center of demand from the industrial sectors, from society, from the other CNR Departments and from the scientific communities outside the CNR, and create Open Innovation systems engaging, in an organized and cohesive way, groups of institutes and researchers in relation to the same demand, with a scheme of "variable geometry”.

It promotes its multidisciplinary core as an essential paradigm of vast planning, which is the true objective to strive for in cooperation with other Departments. Facilitating, sharing knowledge for the construction of the multidisciplinary and interdepartmental supply, will thus provide institutions and individual researchers with profound understanding of the contexts which, would not be possible otherwise. It finally reinforce the presence of the CNR in the Public-Private networks at a national and international level, where possible to govern the scientific component and foster the exploration of innovations, collaborating with the Scientific Council, Institutes and researchers, analyzing the development trend and engaging with companies for a further consideration of their needs.
