Department of Engineering, ICT and Technologies for Energy and Transport Patent Title Method and system for the deteĐƟŽn and the classiĮĐĂƟŽŶ of events during ŵŽƟŽn ĂĐƟŽn. Ref. CNR 1673 Assignee(s): CNR - FIGC CNR InsƟƚute: ISSIA Main Inventor: Arcangelo Distante Countries: EP, US Priority date: 20/04/2005 Abstract This inveŶƟŽn refers to an intelligent vision-based system which is able to acquire, record and process image sequences in order to detect crŝƟcal events during the soccer matches; in ƉĂƌƟĐƵůĂƌ, the system is useful for deƚĞĐƟng ͞Žī-side” events. It allows determining such events in a ƌĞĂůͲƟŵe and semi-auƚŽŵĂƟĐ context, thanks to a not-invasive technique, ĐŽŵƉĂƟďůĞ with the usual course of the matches. Background dŚĞ ŝŶǀĞŶƟŽŶ ƌĞĨĞƌƐ ƚŽ ƐŽĐĐĞƌ ŵĂƚĐŚĞƐ͕ ŝŶ ǁŚŝĐŚ ƐŽŵĞ ƐƉĞĐŝĮĐĂůůLJ ĚĞǀĞůŽƉĞĚ ƚĞĐŚŶŽůŽŐŝĞƐ ĐĂŶ ƐƵƉƉŽƌƚ match management for an objĞĐƟve evaluĂƟon of the dynamic events that occur during matches themselves, in a completely non-invasive and precise way. Technology The system uses high frame-rate cameras, that acquire up to 1000 images per second, in order to capture highly dynamic events. ^ŽŌware modules have been developed to detect the posŝƟŽn of the moving objects; the results are usable by means of a ŵƵůƟŵĞĚŝa console. Advantages and ApplicaƟŽŶs The system allows to overcome the limit of the human visual system that suīĞƌ from perspeĐƟve errors, low temporal resŽůƵƟŽn and occlusions. Allowing an unlimited Įeld of view, it avoids perspeĐƟve errors as several points of view are used. Furthermore, ƌĞĂĐƟŽn Ɵŵe is negligible. The system is not invasive for the Įeld structures. Development stage The system has been developed as a prototype and has been installed into the Udine stadium for real validaƟon. 51
