Department of Engineering, ICT and Technologies for Energy and Transport Patent Title Procedure for the assessment of the cleaning state of a conditioning / heating system of a building. Ref. CNR 10301 Assignee(s): CNR, Tagliaferri s.r.l., F. Buccolini CNR Institute: IAC Main Inventor: Domenico Vitulano Countries: IT, EP, US, CA, KR Priority date: 07/10/2013 Abstract The present invention refers to a methodology for assessing and monitoring the cleaning status of an air conditioning/heating system of a building, seen as the set of filter (or filters) and air ducts. The methodology defines a non-invasive method for measuring the amount of dust in the ventilation system. In particular, said method defines the minimum amount of measurements, the conditions for their acquisition, the time table and the locations of acquisitions. Background Nowadays some methodologies related to the optimal temporal substitution of the filter are available, but they neglect the ventilation ducts cleaning. On the contrary, the cleaning state of the ventilation ducts - as also confirmed by the measurements acquired in the experimental phase - is crucial for a good indoor air quality. Technology Methodology capable of predicting the concentration of indoor pollutants on the basis of some characteristic parameters of the building, of the heating system and on actual measurements of pollutant concentrations. The system is based on a non-invasive intervention in the air conditioning system and it is also able to account for measures acquired at previous times. Advantages and Applications The present invention could have an immediate commercialization in the field of ventilation systems because extremely flexible, automatic, low-cost and able to provide a complete check of the conditioning system (filters and aeration ducts). In addition, the present invention would have a key role in the presence of a new law regulating indoor air quality in both public and private buildings. Development stage Proposals have been submitted for funding the project in order to engineer the methodology in a product- service directly marketable. 1
