Workshop: The scientific support to Munition in the Sea

Workshop – The scientific support to Munition in the Sea
December 6-7, 2018
Institute of Marine Engineering (INM)
Via di Vallerano 139, 00128 Rome, Italy

Ammunition dumped at sea during or after wars constitutes an environmental and safety issue in many European countries. JPI Oceans has initiated a joint action - involving 12 participating countries and is led by Italy - on Munition in the Sea to facilitate research coordination and exchange of knowledge across European countries.

As part of this initiative, CNR has organizing a workshop in Rome, December 6-7, 2018, addressing key aspects where scientific gaps are identified and research can bring substantial contributions for solutions and/or advances in knowledge. Specifically, the event focused on the following topics:

  • Knowledge-based support to decisions
  • Large scale identification of objects
  • Chemicals sensing and remediation
  • Cost efficient explosions’ remediation

The workshop has been jointly organized by The National Research Council of Italy – CNR, Institute of Marine Engineering and the JPI Oceans through the support of the CSA Oceans 2 (Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Program, Grant Agreement No.696324).
